BUYING PROPERTY IN VERBIER, SWITZERLAND

Verbier in Canton Valais is the major ski resort in the Switzerland's “4 Valleys” ski area. Famous for its variety of attractions on and off the slopes, it is one of the world's most popular destination for skiers. Property prices in the Swiss village began to accelerate in the 1990s as the skiing and resort began to appeal to an international clientele. Recent restrictions in Canton Valais as a whole have put reins on the growth of the market though, contrary to popular belief, it is still possible for foreigners to buy property there.

Verbier Property
Verbier offers a wide variety of superb properties, all with different attributes. Chalet property on the sunny slopes of Savoleyres benefits from excellent views over the village and valley while chalets and apartments within walking distance of the Medran ski lift are highly sought-after for their prime location.

The high quality of property development within the resort has established Verbier as the first choice for those looking for an exclusive mountain retreat. Growing interest in the summer mountain activities offered by the resort, such as climbing, hiking, golf and mountain biking, is also driving demand for holiday homes.

Foreign buyers have invested heavily in Verbier and other parts of Valais over the last few years. A property moratorium introduced in 2007 limited the sale of properties in the resort to foreign buyers for a year. There are still purchase opportunities for foreign buyers within the resort despite ongoing restrictions on property purchase by foreigners in Valais as a whole. Holders of Swiss B and C permits are free to purchase any property.

Verbier shares its ski area with a number of smaller ski resorts including Nendaz, Tzoumaz, Les Collons, Veysonnaz and Mayens de Riddes. Development in these resorts has also increased over the last few years as more investors discover their charms and the benefits of linking into the 4 Valleys.

Verbier's Appeal
Mont Fort is the highest peak in the 4 Valleys and is the starting point for many of the off-piste routes through Verbier's backcountry. Mountain restaurants such as Chez Dany, the Cabane du Mont Fort and Le Marmotte have established Verbier’s reputation for good mountain cuisine.

Verbier’s village has a number of excellent restaurants and a well-established bar scene. Skiers flock to Le Fer a Cheval and the Pub Mont Fort for après-ski. The Farm Club first put Verbier nightlife on the map while the exclusive Coco Club, a membership club opened in late 2007, adds to the cosmopolitan feel.
